Google is starting rolling out campaign drafts and experiments starting this week. Drafts and experiments let you test changes in your campaigns, measure results and apply changes that are working for your campaigns. These test changes can be done for Search Network and Search Network with Display select campaigns. You can draft multiple changes to the campaign. Either you can post draft changes to the original campaign or you can use draft changes to experiment. Experiments will help you measure the impact of changes to the campaign before you actually make those changes to the campaign.

How Campaign Drafts works

Drafts allow you to create multiple changes to AdWords campaign and it doesn’t impact campaign performance. You are just mirroring campaign setup when creating a draft. You can make changes and update Drafts just as you do in for normal original campaigns. You can anytime make additional changes to your draft, leave draft anytime or can also discard the draft.

Once you create draft you can apply changes to original campaign or can create experiments to test how these changes are performing against your original campaign.

How Campaign Experiments Works

Once you create Campaign Drafts, instead of posting changes to original campaigns, you can change campaign drafts to campaign experiments. Once you set up campaign experiment, you can make a setting for how long you’d like to run experiments and how much of your original campaign budget you’d like to use for experiments. Depending upon how you have shared budget between your original campaign and campaign experiment, Google system will activate either your original campaign or experiment for the auction randomly. In other words, When a user will perform a search on Google search engine or search partner, Google will either show ad from your original campaign or experiment campaign.

You can monitor and compare the performance of experiment campaign against original campaign. Google system allow you to change the date of experiments campaign to end it early. If your experiments are performing better compare to original campaign, you can apply experiments to original campaigns. You also can convert your experiment campaign into a new campaign with the same budget and same dates as your original campaigns. And you can pause the original campaign. Remember, you can have multiple drafts for campaign but only one of those drafts will run as experiment at a time.
